In 1999, Witherspoon made her name with her part of a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions. She was also known for portraying Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Elle Woods, a comedy comedy (2001), as well as its sequel in 2003 earned her more recognition. She also appeared in Sweet Home Alabama (2002) which was a romantic comedy.
