Apart from his appearance in The Killing, [1] he also appeared in Borgen III, a Danish drama that was widely acclaimed. He also played a central character in an episode of BBC drama Sherlock in which he played blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American TV show House of Cards he played the president of Russia. In 2018, he won an International Emmy Award. His performance in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje was rewarded with an International Emmy Award. The show was broadcast in the UK in 2019, as Ride Upon the Storm.
